Remembering Jerry Garcia

Twenty years ago today on August 9, 1995, the world learned the tragic news of the untimely death of Jerry Garcia. The Grateful Dead guitarist was a legendary American artist whose legacy lives on through the songs he wrote and sweet music he made. Jerry was just a few days past his 53rd birthday when he died, but his short time here was undeniably influential and inspirational and will continue to be for generations to come.

Last week on what would have been Garcia’s 73rd birthday we shared a Spotify playlist that featured Jerry’s work outside of the Grateful Dead. Exemplifying the impact Garcia had not only on his beloved Deadheads but American culture at large, news of his death was covered extensively by national media, footage of which can been seen below.
