We’re saddened to pass along TMZ’s report that famed character actor Abe Vigoda has died. The actor best known for his performances in The Godfather and Barney Miller helped Phish premiere a new album’s worth of material at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on Halloween ’13. Vigoda appeared dressed as a wombat during the foursome’s debut performance of “Wombat” which name checks Abe as he played Detective Phil Fish on Barney Miller and the spinoff Fish.
Abe also took the time to appear in a Godfather parody shared by Phish:
Vigoda was 92 at the time and shortly after discussed the appearance with Chicago’s WGN whom he told, “Halloween night…it was a lot of fun…it was just wonderful. I was told it was 38,000 people in this auditorium, and so I had a very lovely time. At my age, yet! Could you imagine?”
Our thoughts are with Abe’s friends and family.
