Punch Brothers – All Ashore

The Scoop: Chris Thile has been a busy man since he last put out a record with Punch Brothers. The mandolin virtuoso took over hosting duties of the long-running public radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion which was rebranded as Live From Here as well as released a trio of albums … and that was in 2017 alone. Chris also managed to reconvene with his longtime band to write and record a new album. The self-produced All Ashore is a nine-track suite that Thile describes as, “a meditation on committed relationships in the present day, particularly in light of the current unsettled political climate.” Here’s “Three Dots And A Dash”:

The Skiffle Players – Piffle Sayers EP

The Scoop: A band featuring guitarist Neal Casal (Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Circles around the Sun), bassist Dan Horne (Circles Around the Sun, Jonathan Wilson), percussionist Aaron Sperske (Beachwood Sparks), guitarist Cass McCombs and multi-instrumentalist Farmer Dave Scher came together for what was expected to be a one-off concert in Big Sur, California under the moniker The Skiffle Players. The group enjoyed the experience and entered the studio with the resulting Skifflin LP coming out in 2016. Piffle Sayers EP features seven more songs recorded during those sessions. And wait … there’s more: The Skiffle Players are working on a new full-length album set for a fall release. Check out their arrangment of “Stagolee” below:
