Gary Clark Jr. teamed with Grace Bowers & The Hodge Podge for some shows in the Northeast last week. During Clark’s headlining set in Shelburne, Vermont near Burlington on Friday, the 18-year-old guitarist helped Gary close things out with a smoking rendition of “Bright Lights.”
Gary Clark Jr. is touring around his 2024 record, JPEG RAW. After kicking off the Vermont play with “Catfish Blues,” a cover from influential bluesman Robert Petway, the Austin, Texas-born guitarist got into JPEG RAW material with “Maktub.” Clark also delivered album cuts “Alone Together” and “Habits.”

Following the latter, Clark offered the title track to his breakout 2012 LP, Blak and Blu, followed by the album’s “Bright Lights.” Grace Bowers emerged as the band vamped on the minor-key bluesy rocker. Gary got the crowd involved as he led the band through the song before handing things over to guitarist King Zapata for an edgy showing.
The band then brought things down for Bowers, who showed off her versatility going from vibey whammy work to serious shred. Watch Grace Bowers join Gary Clark Jr. for “Bright Lights” below:
