Ryley Walker – Golden Sings That Have Been Sung

The Scoop: With the release of his critically-lauded sophomore album, Primrose Green, Ryley Walker helped introduce a new generation of music fans to the sounds of earthy psychedelic folk. Walker’s take on Cosmic Americana blends American primitive guitar with the pastoral sounds of Burt Jansch-style English folk and Tim Buckley’s dreamy vocals and jazz brushes. Golden Sings That Have Been Sung, finds Walker teaming with former Wilco multi-instrumentalist LeRoy Bach for a set of tunes inspired by his return to adoptive hometown of Chicago from a lengthy touring schedule. Amos Lee – Spirit

The Scoop: Singer-songwriter Amos Lee recorded his sixth studio album, Spirit in a studio that was converted from a church in East Nashville. Though recorded in Nashville, the LP takes its influence from Memphis and more specifically Stax Records as the folk artist shows off a more soulful side of his music over the course of Spirit’s 13 tracks. After years of working with outside producers, Amos produced this record himself and enlisted a number of musicians that he’s always wanted to employ. If you’ve always wanted to hear Amos Lee go the soul/R&B route, this album is for you. Listen to the title track of Amos Lee’s new album, Spirit:

Lisa Hannigan – At Swim

The Scoop: In the early part of the 2000s, Lisa Hannigan seemed poised to have a long-standing musical partnership with fellow Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice, providing a gorgeous counterpoint to his emotionally aching songs. The duo parted ways in 2007, with Hannigan becoming a critically acclaimed solo artist. With her third record and first in five years, At Swim, finds Hannigan teamed-up with The National’s Aaron Dessner for another set of gorgeous eggshell-delicate songs set to lush and moody string and piano arrangements. Anchored by Hannigan’s ethereal vocals, the record is the perfect companion as summer turns into fall. Give a listen to album’s lead single “Prayer For The Dying”:
