Every year, in what has become a steadfast tradition for Midwest Kinfolk, Yonder Mountain String Band returns to Chicago’s House of Blues for two nights. In tow with Yonder for this year’s run was the pride and joy of Chicago’s bluegrass scene, Allie Kral. The show was her first time at the Windy City’s House of Blues in over three years. Flat-picking sensation Larry Keel started off the night as his band, consisting of his wife Jenny on bass and Will Lee on banjo, has been traveling with Yonder on this tour. Following their set, Larry and Will hung out on stage, ready for when Yonder asked them back out for a “Pass This Way” jam. The pair wound up sitting in for the rest of the first set and for a sequence at the end of the second set. Allie wished her father a happy birthday before leading the band through Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man” towards the end of the second set. Yonder provides a platform where Allie has had an opportunity to showcase her vocal talents, and they sure do shine. With Jake Jolliff holding down the mandolin, Yonder is touring with a solid lineup this fall.
