The 10th annual Petaluma Music Festival was held on Saturday at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in northern California. Successfully raising money for school music programs, the festival presents outstanding local talent to the delight of festival goers.
This year the weather was perfectly sunny and the setting intimate. Three stages allowed people to see bands who play at staggered times. This year, Chris Robinson Brotherhood was the headliner, delivering a set of their California psychedelic soul rock. Other supporting acts included Ross James & Scott Law’s Cosmic Twang, Moonalice, Grateful Bluegrass Boys, T Sisters, Stu Allen & Friends, Poor Man’s Whiskey, Colonel & The Mermaids and Midnight North.
A surprise at the end of Cosmic Twang’s set was guest Norman Greenbaum recreating his 1960s hit “Spirit In The Sky” with a large supporting cast. Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz was an Artist-At-Large and played with most of the bands. There were many other sit-ins throughout the day by other musicians as well. A kids area, silent auction, local winery tastings, local food and craft vendors, and sponsorship by Lagunitas Brewing Company complimented the cool NorCal vibe.
