The brain-child of a 64 year old grandmother who is passionately fighting the Sunrise Powerlink, Ranchita Rocks is growing and growing. “Everyday something good has happened since my husband and I decided to host this huge event. My son, Steven Rohrer owner of TQM Builders, had put a fabulous lineup of entertainment together through his musical contacts in both L.A. and San Diego,” states Carolyn Morrow.
The eclectic group of Bands include: rock legends Fishbone, Weapon of Choice, HR (of Bad Brains) and the Dub Agents, Alfred Howard & the K23 Orchestra, Interstate Blues, Compass Rose and Vegitation. Comedy Camp is featuring Jeff Peterson’s Dopest Show on Earth, All Access with Phil Varone, Hunter’s World, and Zack Waldman’s Comedy Magic. The DJ Tent will rock with prolific international D:fuse, Monks of Madness, Jesse Wright and Ideal, to name just a few. Among the performers will be Red Warrior Drum Group, Apache/Kiowa southern drummers.
Protect Our Communities (POC) Fund (administered by the San Diego Foundation) was conceived last year by the CUSP (Communities United for Sensible Power) coalition, which include members from the desert to the sea. Their mission is: To create a better energy future for San Diego and stop the Sunrise Powerlink. To date POC has funded legal and technical experts, public relations and community outreach activities. “The coalition has definitely been holding SDG&E’s feet to the fire,” states Diane Conklin, CPUC intervener and CUSP coordinator.
“We want everyone to come out and enjoy our Ranch, listen to fabulous music, eat great food and help us stop the Sunrise Powerlink from destroying both the back country and Anza Borrego Desert State Park,” encourages Carolyn.
