Railroad Earth has tapped bassist Dave Speranza to join the band. The Brooklyn-based musician takes over for Andrew Altman who played his last show with Railroad Earth at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania on Saturday, November 26 to conclude their 11th annual Horn O’Plenty two-night Thanksgiving Weekend run.

Dave Speranza devoted much of 2022 to backing Sarah Jarosz as part of a touring lineup that also included his new RRE bandmate Mike Robinson on guitar. The bassist, who switches between upright and electric, hit the road with Sam Reider and Sarah Siskind before that. Additionally, his impressive resume has seen Speranza tour/record with Eddie Barbash, Stephane Wrembel, Jim Campilongo, Roy Williams and many others.

Speranza is the fourth Railroad Earth bassist. Dave Von Dollen co-founded the band in 2001 before Johnny Grubb replaced him in 2003. Then, in 2009, Grubb revealed he would be parting ways with the group following that year’s New Year’s Run. Andrew Altman was picked as Grubb’s replacement and held down the role through last month.

Dave Speranza will make his Railroad Earth debut later this week at Strings & Sol in Mexico. Scroll below for a full list of RRE tour dates:
