On April 29 Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead were supposed to play the iconic Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado; yet the threat of bad weather forced promoters to move the show indoors to Broomfield’s 1st Bank Center. The five-piece filled the arena show with memorable moments and one standout sequece of the evening is featured as today’s Rad Tracks Monday.
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead fit a few debuts into their first set in Broomfield and one of which was a riveting take on “Gonesville” from Bob Weir’s 2016 cowboy album, Blue Mountain. Guitarist Scott Metzger did a fine job with the lyrics and the band nailed the feel of the song. JRAD’s first ever “Gonesville” led directly into a typically strong “Shakedown Street.” Tom Hamilton sang “Shakedown” and helped close out the segment with a powerful solo.
