Pro-Shot Video: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Fits ‘Liz Reed’ Within ‘Here Comes Sunshine’

Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead played six shows at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City over the course of two weekends in March. The band was joined by former Allman Brothers Band and current Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge for the final three shows of the run. JRAD has unveiled the latest installment of their Rad Tracks series featuring a highlight from their March 18th concert at Brooklyn Bowl.

In the video below we watch as Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, with Oteil on bass, work a Grateful Dead original into a beloved Allman Brothers Band song and back again. Joe Russo and his mates opened the final show of their six-concert run in New York City with “Promised Land,” “Golden Road To Unlimited Devotion” and “Hell In A Bucket.” This week’s Rad Tracks picks up as JRAD lights into “Here Comes Sunshine.” Just as the band jams “Here Comes Sunshine” outside its normal boundaries, guitarist Scott Metzger starts hinting at “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.” Soon thereafter the whole band would catch on and launch into JRAD’s first cover of the tune since March 24, 2016. Russo lays down a ridiculous drum break that culminates with an impressive segue back into “Here Comes Sunshine” to conclude the magical 22-minute segment.
