The recently held 2017 Newport Folk Festival featured a solo performance by singer-songwriter Jim James. While backstage at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island the My Morning Jacket frontman performed a cover of a Jimmie Rodgers original for the MyMusicRx organization.
Introduced by James as one of his “favorite lullabies” while adding “hopefully it’ll put you right to sleep,” the backstage acoustic performance features his arrangement of Rodgers’ tender “Prairie Lullaby.” MyMusicRx was launched by Children’s Cancer Association in order to introduce “the healing power of music to kids facing cancer and other serious illnesses.” The organization produces a series of live music videos, hosts concerts and stages the annual Bedstock charity event during which musicians perform in hospital beds in solidarity with hospitalized children cancer patients.
