This weekend, Circles Around The Sun returns to New York City for a sold-out performance at the Gramercy Theatre on Saturday and a Sunday matinee at Brooklyn Bowl. Professionally-shot footage of “Gilbert’s Groove” from CATS’ previous visit to Brooklyn Bowl has been shared by the venue.
Circles Around The Sun features guitarist Neal Casal, drummer Mark Levy, keyboardist Adam MacDougall and bassist Dan Horne. Casal created the project to compose and record music to be played at intermissions of 2015’s Fare Thee Well – Celebrating 50 Years Of Grateful Dead concerts. The tremendous response from fans led CATS to issue Interludes From The Dead later that year.
In 2016, Circles Around The Sun made their live debut at the Lockn’ Festival and followed up the appearance with a short run of shows in November. The quartet’s November run included a stop at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City on the 23rd. One of the highlights of the night was an 18-minute “Gilbert’s Groove,” CATS’ ode to the Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street.”
