Pro-Shot Full Show Video: Ghost Light Plays Ardmore Music Hall

Ghost Light continued their inaugural East Coast run on Thursday night at Ardmore Music Hall near Philadelphia. The show was a hometown performance for guitarists Tom Hamilton and Raina Mullen, bassist Steve Lyons and drummer Scotty Zwang was are all based out of the City Of Brotherly Love.
The five-piece opened with an original tentatively titled “Come Apart.” Ghost Light has used the song as launching pad for improvisation and Thursday’s version was no exception. “Come Apart” in Ardmore spanned over 20 minutes. The band then transitioned from a cover of Derek & The Dominos’ “Keep On Growing” into the Mullen-sung “Lead Weight.” On “Lead Weight,” Holly Bowling and Hamilton’s impressive interplay was on display as GL built the jam to a huge peak. The climax was followed by an atmospheric segment leading up to Bowling starting up a rendition of “Head Over Heels” by Tears For Fears. Once again, the group expanded beyond the song’s normal boundaries for a stellar bout of improvisation and then concluded “Lead Weight.”

Ghost Light’s second set at Ardmore Music Hall was a 75-minute affair. Up first was an adventurous “Synth Driver” from Hamilton’s American Babies project. Original “Isosceles” came next along with the more funky “Diamond Eyes.” The tentatively titled “If You Want It” followed and saw the group throw “Swimming At Night” within. Hamilton then led the group through the Grateful Dead’s “Deal” to bring the frame to a close. Ghost Light had time for a quick encore and unveiled their take on “Leave The Light On” from Tommy’s time in Brothers Past.
