Sean Ono Lennon & Ty Segall Join Primus At Pier 17

Primus bassist Les Claypool was joined by his The Claypool Lennon Delirium bandmate Sean Ono Lennon last night at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City. The guest guitarist accompanied Primus on “Southbound Pachyderm,” with opener Ty Segall also providing an additional guitar.

Primus recently set out on their Onward & Upward Tour, which is the first to feature Claypool and guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde, with new drummer John Hoffman.

Segall has opened each show of the tour and previously joined Primus on “Southbound Pachyderm” in Nashville and Burlington, Vermont. The frequent encore song was again selected as Monday’s finale, preceded by the new single, “Little Lord Fentanyl.” Primus started “Southbound Pachyderm” with just the trio on stage, with Claypool speaking to the audience mid-song.

“It’s been our honor to have Ty Segall tour with us this summer,” Claypool explained. “And this is the last show he’s going to do with us for a few weeks before we meet back up in Los Angeles. So, we figured we’d have him come on out and make a little racket for you. And he’s accompanied by a good friend of ours, a fella we call ‘Shiner.’”

“Shiner” is Claypool’s nickname for Ono Lennon. The pair formed The Claypool Lennon Delirium and released the group’s debut album, Monolith Of Phobos, in 2016. A second album, South Of Reality, followed in 2019.

Bassist MonoNeon takes over supporting Primus on the next leg of the Onward & Upward Tour beginning tonight, Tuesday, July 22 at Hartford HealthCare Amphitheatre in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Segall will reunite with Priums to open their August 6 show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
