The cache of unreleased recordings left by Prince following his untimely death two years ago is well documented. The multi-talented musician was said to have hours upon hours of unreleased material stored in his Paisley Park vault. According to Prince estate adviser Troy Carter, an album of The Purple One’s unreleased material will be released in September.
In an interview with Variety, Carter told the outlet a new Prince album will be issued by Warner Bros. on September 28. Recently, the demo version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” was made available by the same team led by Carter that’s working with the estate on new releases. A never-before-seen rehearsal video accompanying the demo was also posted.
“Prince basically saved everything, so there are decades of music and video and artifacts, but it takes [a] long time to go through each one of those and research the historical context: where is this from, who did he collaborate with, where was it recorded, what year, was it the final version?” Carter told Variety. “Last week, the release of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ was the first piece of music to come from our collaboration with the estate, and now we’re working on a release for the fall — a full-length album.”

Additionally, a new website annotating Prince’s vast official discography was launched by the estate (link here). A fan-driven memorial website, www.prince2me.com, was also recently launched.
