Preservation Hall Jazz Band Members Join The War On Drugs At XPoNential

The 25th annual XPoNential Music Festival took place last weekend at Wiggins Park and BB&T Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey. Among the highlights from Saturday’s slate of performances, was members of Preservation Hall Jazz Band collaborating on stage with the day’s headliners The War On Drugs.

BB&T Pavilion also hosted sets Saturday by Fantastic Negrito and Sturgill Simpson. Preservation Hall Jazz Band performed an opening set and members of the legendary New Orleans-based group’s horn section — tuba player Ben Jaffe, saxophonist Clint Maedgen, trumpeter Brandon Lewis and trombonist Ronnell Johnson — emerged during The War On Drugs performance to assist on “Arms Like Boulders.” The song was originally recorded by frontman Adam Granduciel as the opening track to the 2008 debut The War On Drugs album Wagonwheel Blues.
