Pink Floyd The Endless River Details Emerge

One of the most surprising stories of the summer was that Pink Floyd would soon be releasing a new album. The Endless River is said to “an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions,” according to a statement from the band and was produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. There haven’t been too many details as we drew closer to expected October release…until now. Pink Floyd has officially announced the release date of November 10. The Endless River will be available on standard CD, double vinyl and as a deluxe box set that includes 39-minutes of extra material.

Uncut Magazine devotes the cover story of a new issue to The Endless River and the folks in the Stevehoffman.tv forums, as per Consequence of Sound, have shared details of the yet-to-appear online feature. According to the Uncut feature, the project started in August 2012 when Gilmour asked Manzanera to listen to the jam sessions that serve as the basis of the project. Mason’s drumming was the first element to be recorded in November 2013 and Gilmour and Mason spent 30 days overdubbing guitars and recording drums. Richard Wright is represented by the use of an organ track he recorded at Royal Albert Hall in 1969.
The Endless River is said to focus on the “atmospheric and digressive aspects of Pink Floyd and includes snippets of conversation. Uncut also notes that the song “Louder Than Words,” the only non-instrumental song on the album, discusses the full history of the band and includes the lyrics:
We bitch and we fight
But this thing that we do
It’s louder than words
The sum of our parts
The beat of our hearts
It’s louder than words
