Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will present a two-night New Year’s Run in Asheville with an “Arena 54 NYE” theme on December 31st to end 2021. The band will start the jaunt at The Orange Peel on December 30 before returning to the ExploreAsheville.com Arena on New Year’s Eve.

One-man-band Keller Williams and Georgia-based act Funk You will open for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong on New Year’s Eve. PPPP played “The Electric Kool-Aid Asheville Test” at ExploreAsheville.com Arena on December 31, 2019.

The Baltimore-based quartet’s “intergalactic disco celebration” on New Year’s Eve will “combine out-of-this-world alien elements of Area 51 with the discotheque pastiche of one of history’s most renowned nightclubs, Studio 54” as per a statement from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. “If Dave Grohl says it, it must be true, disco is back!” said PPPP frontman Greg Ormont in reference to Foo Fighters' Hail Satin tribute album recorded as the Dee Gees. “I think we set the bar pretty high last time we played New Year’s Eve at this epic arena, and now we’re going to launch that bar into outer space by infusing our high energy psychedelic funk with smile-inducing disco beats and the supernatural vibes that Asheville emanates as strongly as Roswell.”

Entry to The Orange Peel can only be purchased in a package with New Year’s Eve tickets. A PPPP pre-sale runs from Wednesday, August 11 at 10 a.m. ET through Thursday, August 12 at 10 p.m. ET using FLOCK as the code. Tickets go up for grabs to the general public this Friday, August 12 at 10 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster (2-Day Pass, New Year’s Eve).

“In accordance with current safety protocols, the venues require proof of full vaccination or proof of a negative COVID test (within the last 48 hrs) for entry,” stated the band in a press release heralding the two-night run. “A nasal swab COVID test will be available at a closely located area on 12/31 for those seeking immediate proof of their COVID status (there will not be an on-site testing station on 12/30 at The Orange Peel). The State of North Carolina has strongly encouraged mask wearing in public indoor venues for all vaccinated and unvaccinated citizens.”
