Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and The Infamous Stringdusters joined forces for a co-headlining show featuring support from Melt at The Westcott Theater in Syracuse on Saturday night. The concert ended with a collaborative cover of the Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like An Eagle.”

Dubbed “The Infamous Pigeon Melt,” the five-show excursion — which wraps tonight in South Deerfield, Massachusetts — has been loaded with collaborations. Melt kicked off the action in Syracuse before The Infamous Stringdusters recruited the band’s Veronica Stewart-Frommer to sing “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” with them.

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong capped the night with one long set at the Westcott. The quartet followed the “Water” opener by pairing “Fox & Toad” and “Lost In Line.”

“Kiwi” came next and led into a “Whoopie” that featured a cover of Prince’s “1999” within. PPPP then offered standalone versions of “Skinner” and “King Kong” before they brought out Infamous Stringdusters fiddler Jeremy Garrett for “Su Casa.” The four-piece went it alone to close their set with “Schwanthem.”

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong recruited four-fifths of The Infamous Stringdusters to load the stage for the “Fly Like An Eagle” encore. Dusters bassist Travis Book sat out what was PPPP’s first cover of the Steve Miller Band 1976 hit since July 21, 2011.
