Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Announce ‘Flockbuster’ Livestream Concerts
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will take the stage at The 8×10 in their hometown of Baltimore for a pair of “Flockbuster” livestream concerts featuring music-themed material on Saturday, November 21 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and Sunday, November 22 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. The livestreams are available for those who make a donation of any amount here, as proceeds will be shared with The 8×10’s COVID-19 Relief Fund and National Independent Venue Association (NIVA).
The “Flockbuster” concerts and livestreams were originally scheduled for Halloween Weekend at The Diamond in Richmond, Virginia. However, the shows were canceled and livestreams postponed after a member of PPPP’s touring party tested positive for COVID-19.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong played The 8×10 often in their early years but outgrew the venue after a performance on January 3, 2015. “We were so excited to close out our drive-in tour with extra special Halloween shows in Richmond,” noted guitarist Greg Ormont in a press release. “I’m happy to report that we’re all in great health and thrilled to finally unleash this fresh material on the entire Flock. And there’s no better place to do it than our old stomping grounds, The 8×10, which is where we debuted our first themed show many full moons ago.”
The quartet suggests donations of $30+ for the livestreams, but note “all amounts [are] greatly appreciated.” The 8×10 Relief Fund was put together by the famed venue’s current owners to help cover safety and operational costs mounting up during the pandebmic. NIVA’s mission is to “preserve and nuture the ecosystem of independent venues and promoters throughout the United States” by raising funds and urging Congress to pass the Save Our Stages Act. VIP perks including “post-show hangs with the band” via Zoom will be given to top contributors.
