Assembly Of Strange Wine :: 01.15.16 :: The Capitol Theatre :: Port Chester, NY
Last night at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York the first of two “Assembly Of Strange Wine” billed performances was held featuring Assembly of Dust, Strangefolk and God Street Wine. The night was filled with cross-collaborations between the three acts and included a couple of cover song tributes to David Bowie.
Assembly of Dust kicked off the festivities with a set that featured guest guitarist Scott Metzger in place of Adam Terrell. AOD brought out members of Strangefolk for a take on “All The Same” while members of God Street Wine joined AOD for “Filter.” Next up was Strangefolk’s set which featured guest spots from GSW members, including guitarist Aaron Maxwell on “Sometimes” as well as Metzger sitting-in on “Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad.” Multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby pulled triple duty by performing with all three bands throughout the night.
Opening their first performance under their own moniker since 2013, God Street Wine treated fans at the Cap to a rendition of Bowie’s “Life On Mars?” They then moved through such favorites as “Molly,” “Bring Back The News,” and “Goodnight Gretchen.” Guitarist/vocalist Reid Genauer came out for part of the set, assisting on “Hellfire” > “Wall” and more. The second half of their set featured takes on “A Good Dream” and a “Cheap Utah Blues” > “Ballroom” > “6:15” closing segment. Without leaving the stage for a break, GSW welcomed members of Strangefolk and AOD out to augment their two-song encore. First up was the live debut of the new Jon Bevo-penned GSW original “Oh Wonderful One,” before the collective gave Bowie another nod with a spirited cover of “Golden Years.”
Audience-shot video footage of the second half of God Street Wine’s performance last night was posted by JCSP TV and can be seen below (“Golden Years” featuring members of Strangefolk and AOD starts at 39:15):
