Photographer Susana Millman To Release Grateful Dead Focused Book & Will Hit The Road In Support

Later this month photographer Susana Millman will release Alive With The Dead / A Fly On The Wall With A Camera, focusing on pictures of the Grateful Dead. Millman will sign and talk about the book, which is available for pre-order here, at a series of book signing events and concerts in November.

Susana Millman was a ubiquitous presence at Grateful Dead shows from 1985 until Jerry Garcia’s death in 1995. When Jerry was asked if the Dead had an official photographer, Garcia responded “I guess not, but if we did, it’d be (Susana).” She not only captured the band in action but also at family events and at side project gigs.

A tremendously successful Kickstarter campaign led to the publication of Alive With The Dead / A Fly On The Wall With A Camera. The deluxe first edition will be a 256-page large-format coffee table book with a slipcase, foil stamping and rich extras.

After a hometown kickoff at the California Historical Society on November 2 in San Francisco, Millman will take Alive With The Dead / A Fly On The Wall With A Camera on the road, where she will join forces with quintessential Grateful Dead tribute act Dark Star Orchestra, at a number of East Coast venues, as well as appearances with other musical friends in other places. At each date Millman will take the stage for a Q&A and will share Jerry stories before heading to the lobby to sign books.
