Phoenix and Vampire Weekend continued an ongoing series of live collaborations yesterday at the Primavera Sound music festival in Barcelona, Spain. VW frontman Ezra Koenig dropped in on Phoenix’s set, appearing with the French band a day before his own band’s scheduled slot at the long-running fest.
Phoenix and Vampire Weekend linked up last month when Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars joined VW at their concert in Austin held during the solar eclipse. Earlier this month, Koenig sat in with Phoenix at the Just Like Heaven Festival in Pasadena, California.

Both of those collaborations featured performances of Phoenix’s song “Tonight,” which appeared on their 2022 album, Alpha Zulu. Koenig guested on the studio version of “Tonight” and began his sit-in with Phoenix at Primavera Sound by accompanying the band on the track.
Koenig stuck around and played guitar on a subsequent offering of Phoenix’s favorite “1901” from the 2009 album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Koenig remained on stage while Mars crowd surfed his way through a performance of the Alpha Zulu track “Identical (Reprise).”
Vampire Weekend plays Primavera Sound today, Thursday, May 30, while Phoenix performs at Club Rockstadt in Brasov, Romania. Watch video footage of their collab at Primavera Sound below:
