Phish Issues Pre-Tour Statement Regarding COVID-19
Phish has urged fans who test positive for COVID-19 or come into contact with someone who has tested positive in the last 14 days not to attend their shows.
Phish tour kicks off tonight with a concert at Walmart Amphitheatre in Rogers, Arkansas. The band addressed the uncertainty that still persists heading into a run that was originally scheduled for 2020 and was postponed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic in a pre-tour statement posted on Phish.com and Phish social feeds.
“As excited as we are to be back on tour, the world is not yet back to normal,” wrote Phish. “If you’re coming out to a show this summer, it goes without saying that with the recent rise of coronavirus infections nationwide, a good measure of caution and common sense will go a long way towards keeping everyone as safe and healthy as possible.” The band urged fans to get vaccinated with those words penned in all capital letters as “the best thing you can possibly do before coming to a show.”
Phish also recommended fans, vaccinated or not, wear a mask when closer than six feet from others. “Being vaccinated AND wearing a mask at these shows is the best way you can show love and respect for our incredible community,” added the band. Masks will be distributed for free at every show. Free masks can be obtained tonight at the medical station inside the main gate.
Additionally, the group asked those who have tested positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone who tested positive in the last 14 days “DO NOT COME” to see show(s). Read the full text of the note below:
This summer tour has been a long time coming, and everyone is thrilled to finally kick it off tonight!
As excited as we are to be back on tour, the world is not yet back to normal. If you’re coming out to a show this summer, it goes without saying that with the recent rise of coronavirus infections nationwide, a good measure of caution and common sense will go a long way towards keeping everyone as safe and healthy as possible.
As we’ve said, the best thing you can possibly do before coming to a show is to GET VACCINATED! Furthermore, as social distancing is not possible inside the venues, we highly recommend wearing a mask at these outdoor shows when closer than 6 feet to others, regardless of whether or not you’re vaccinated. Being vaccinated AND wearing a mask at these shows is the best way you can show love and respect for our incredible community.
While venues will have quantities of free masks available at every show (for tonight’s show, there are masks available at the medical station inside the main gate), please be sure to bring your own. Please check with venue websites before you head to the shows to see what containers are permissible to bring in; many venues have adopted a clear bags policy in an effort to minimize contact upon entry.
We ask that you please DO NOT COME to the show if you have tested positive or been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days, or are experiencing symptoms of the virus.
Thanks for keeping these precautions in mind — we’re all in this together. It takes each one of us to make sure that we can all continue to see live music safely.
