Just one night after Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers completed a three-show residency at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California; the band’s lead singer returned to the venue as part of the latest inventive Phil Lesh & Friends lineup presented by the Grateful Dead bassist.

Last night’s Phil & Friends show found Phil Lesh and Nicki Bluhm joined by Grahame Lesh, Jeff Chimenti, Ezra Lipp and Stu Allen. The band rolled through a number of Grateful Dead classics as well as a few choice covers and a Gramblers original sung by Bluhm. After opening with “Mason’s Children,” Nicki led the ensemble through “Deal.” Following a Grahame sung “Althea” and Stu belting out “Loser,” Bluhm fronted the group for “How Sweet It Is.” Runs through “Cold Rain & Snow,” “Eyes Of The World” and “Fire On The Mountain” brought the first set to a close.

Nicki was featured on the “Shakedown Street” that opened the second set and also contributed to “The Wheel” that followed. Later in the set, Bluhm led the group through the Gramblers’ original “Ravenous” and also shared vocals on “Morning Dew” with Allen. The encore, a cover of Neil Young’s “Helpless,” gave Nicki one last chance to shine.
