Relix shared video of Phil Lesh & Friends featuring Chris Robinson Brotherhood at LOCKN’ on August 28, 2016. During their set, CRB and Phil delivered the Grateful Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie” for the LOCKN’ audience.
The song originally appears on the Grateful Dead’s 1970 album Workingman’s Dead and has its origins in the tragic events at The Rolling Stones’ infamous Altamont Speedway festival in 1969. Another guest appearance of note during Phil’s set at LOCKN’ 2016 was guitarist Gary Clark Jr. on “Good Morning Little School Girl” and “Wang Dang Doodle.”

But nearly every member of CRB (except for bassist Jeff Hill) — Chris Robinson (guitar, vocals), Neil Casal (guitar), Adam MacDougal (keyboards) and Tony Leone (drums) — joined Phil as “Friends” for the entire set. About halfway through, the stellar band delivered “New Speedway Boogie.”
