Watch Pavement Play First ‘Angel Carver Blues/Mellow Jazz Docent’ Since 1996

Pavement kicked off a two-night run at The Eastern in Atlanta on Saturday. The rockers broke out “Angel Carver Blues/Mellow Jazz Docent’ for the first time in 26 years.

Pavement — who played their first concert since 2010 in May — have been offering long-shelved tunes as well as special guests on their 2022 reunion tour including dusting off “Half A Canyon” in Boston and welcoming Philadelphia-area native Kurt Vile in Philly.

The unshelving of “Angel Carver Blues/Mellow Jazz Docent” came after the Crooked Rain favorite “Cut Your Hair.” Guitarist led the band through the brief but big bust out not played since 1996. Watch Pavement dust off “Angel Carver Blues/Mellow Jazz Docent” below:

The first of two concerts in the ATL saw the band leaning heavily on their 1997 LP Brighten The Corners and 1994’s Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. Songs from Brighten The Corners included opener “Fin” as well as “Date W/ IKEA,” “Shady Lane,” “Starlings Of The Slipstream” and more. Crooked Rain tunes came in the form of “Gold Soundz,” “Range Life” and others. Pavement’s reunion tour continues with a taping of an episode of Austin City Limits tonight (watch livestream) ahead of a play at Austin City Limits Live At Moody Theater to cap off the North American leg of the tour.
