Pavement performed Wowee Zowee standout “Half A Canyon” for the first time since 1996 during their concert Wednesday night. Additionally, guitarist Stephen Malkmus worked a riff from Nirvana’s 1993 hit “All Apologies” within the “Type Slowly” jam as part of the show at Boston’s Boch Center Wang Theatre.

The group’s 25-song performance in Boston was the latest stop of their reunion tour. Malkmus and bandmates Spiral Stairs, Bob Nastanovich, Mark Ibold and Steve West along with touring keyboardist Rebecca Cole began the show with “Grounded,” one of seven cuts from 1995’s Wowee Zowee played last night. A nicely extended “Type Slowly” was trotted out a few songs later.

Stephen Malkmus infused the improv that developed out of the track off 1997’s Brighten The Corners with the “All Apologies” theme. “Jams run through the Northeast!” quipped Malkmus at the end of the song. The biggest surprise of the night was the return of “Half A Canyon” midway through the band’s main set. Pavement last played the Wowee Zowee standout on June 26, 1996 in Cologne, Germany as per Setlist.FM. “Black Out,” “Fight This Generation,” “Painted Soldiers,” “Kennel District” and “Grave Architecture” were the other Wowee Zowee tracks to make the setlist in Boston.

Beloved Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain single “Cut Your Hair” brought Wednesday’s main set to a close. The band followed the aforementioned “Grave Architecture” with Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain’s “Stop Breathin” as the evening’s encore. Pavement now heads to Brooklyn for a four-night run at Kings Theatre that starts on Friday and continues through Monday.
