Pavement reunited last night at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles for their first concert since 2010. The performance featuring a setlist containing many rarities was a warm-up show for a pair of festival appearances next month and upcoming world tour.

The band consisting of Stephen Malkmus, Spiral Stairs, Bob Nastanovich, Mark Ibold and Steve West was joined last night and will be for the tour by keyboardist Rebecca Cole of Wild Flag as per Brooklyn Vegan’s report. Pavement kicked off the evening with “Our Singer” off 1992’s Slanted And Enchanted and “Frontwards” from their 1992 EP Watery, Domestic.

The first bust outs of the concert came next with “Embassy Row” and “Black Out,” both of which hadn’t been performed since 1997. From there, the group played fan favorites “Trigger Cut,” “Kennel District,” “Spit On A Stranger” and “Gold Soundz.” It was then back to rarities as “Transport Is Arranged” saw action for the first time since 1997 while the pairing of “Serpentine Pad” and “Motion Suggests” were each last played in 1996. Pavement also dusted off “Harness Your Hopes,” “Folk Jam,” “Grave Architecture” and “Major Leagues” for the first time since 1999 and delivered “Type Slowly” after 25 years on the shelf. The biggest surprise was the return of Slanted And Enchanted’s “Flame Throwa,” which hadn’t been performed since 1993.

Pavement followed their 23-song main set with a first encore featuring five tunes including the aforementioned “Grave Architecture” and “Major Leagues.” The band then capped the +two-hour concert by returning for a second encore of “Here” and the debut Jim Pepper cover “Witchi Tai To.”
