Paul McCartney first performed at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan with The Beatles in 1966. Yesterday, he and his band returned to the famed venue for the first time in nearly half a century and debuted a song not he, nor The Beatles, had ever before played live. Sir Paul treated those in attendance to the live debut of the Help! track, “Another Girl.”

McCartney’s set included many other classic The Beatles tunes, interspersed with cuts from his solo catalog. After the show he spoke to NME about the experience of playing Budokan, “It was sensational and quite emotional remembering the first time and then experiencing this fantastic audience tonight,” McCartney said. “It was thrilling for us and we think it was probably the best show we did in Japan and it was great to be doing the Budokan 49 years later. It was crazy. We loved it.”
