Iconic musician Paul McCartney appeared on Monday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. McCartney’s return to the Ed Sullivan Theater, where The Beatles famously performed on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time in 1964, saw him chat with Colbert about The Beatles, BTS, his Hey Grandude book, losing his mother at an early age and other topics.

Paul started out by talking about the significance of the Ed Sullivan Theater and admitted he didn’t remember where in the venue The Beatles had performed. Colbert then queried Macca about his songwriting skills to which Paul noted the importance of his dad’s musicality in his formative years. The Liverpool native then recalled The Beatles’ first tour of America and how cool it was to hear his songs on the radio. The host went on to bring up boy band BTS’ appearance on Colbert and the K-Pop sensations’ version of “Hey Jude.”

The second part of Colbert’s chat with McCartney focused on the fame Paul has experienced. McCartney also spoke about his love for Elvis Presley’s music. Stephen went on to reveal his favorite Paul McCartney song and discussed the tune with the 77-year-old artist. For the third segment, Paul explained that he often dreams about his late Beatles band mate, John Lennon. McCartney and Colbert shared a moment when they discussed each losing a parent at an early age. Paul then recalled the genesis of “Yesterday” and sneaking in a screening of the recent film of the same name. The final segment of The Late Show featured Paul’s take on watching Jimi Hendrix perform “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” just after The Beatles put out the song and McCartney discussing his Hey Grandude book. Additionally, last night’s Colbert included a skit in which audio was discovered from 1969 featuring The Beatles discussing what would turn into “Baby Shark” and “Old Town Road.”
