Olivia Rodrigo headlined the opening of this year’s BST Hyde Park concert series in London last Friday night and the long-running Glastonbury Festival in Somerset on Sunday. British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran joined Rodrigo at Hyde Park and The Cure frontman Robert Smith performed with Rodrigo at Glastonbury.
Rodrigo brought out Sheeran near the end of her BST Hyde Park set, which was constructed from songs of her 2021 debut album, Sour and its 2023 follow-up, GUTS.
“I want to introduce one of my favorite Brits and one of the best songwriters of all time,” Rodrigo told the Hyde Park crowd.
Sheeran then emerged and joined Rodrigo onstage, both of them possessing acoustic guitars. They then unveiled their performance of “The A Team,” the lead track from Sheeran’s 2011 debut album, +. Watch their collaboration below:
After their duet, Sheeran posted a message about the experience on social media:
“Been a fan of Olivia’s since ‘drivers license’ blew my mind back at the start of 2021. Both albums are no skips for me, I’m a proper fan. We first met at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2022, sat next to each other with her mum and my dad and went on to hang and keep in touch from there.
“Was gonna go watch the show anyway, but she hit me and asked to sing ‘The A Team’ with her, which was such a buzz. That song turns 15 this year, and I remember playing it to rooms with no one in it, in 2010, so to still be playing it to new fans with one of the brightest stars of the next generation is an honor and a privilege. Rock Glasto headline Sunday [Olivia], UK loves you.”
