Octave Cat is a recently formed trio featuring Lotus bassist Jesse Miller, Dopapod keyboardist Eli Winderman and drummer Charlie Patierno. Today, the band has issued their self-titled debut album ahead of a run of shows next weekend.
The trio came together unintentionally as Jesse and Eli hit it off musically when Winderman met up with Miller to play some of his modular and vintage synthesizers. Jesse and Eli jammed and recorded part of the session. They then recruited Patierno and have continued to write and record. Octave Cat recorded their LP, which is said to draw on late ’70s funk-jazz fusion as well as synth music, at Miner Street Studio, Rittenhouse Soundworks and at Jesse and Charlie’s home studios.

On March 17, Octave Cat begins a series of three shows with a performance at Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia. The next night the trio plays American Beauty in New York City before ending the run at Baltimore’s 8X10 Club on March 19.
