Welcome to the first edition of Virtual Crate Digging in the nugs.net app, where JamBase’s editorial staff goes digging through the archives of the 10,000+ shows available for streaming via the newly launched mobile application.

Late last year, nugs.net launched their first subscription streaming service. For $12.99 per month or $129.99 per year, subscribers can gain unlimited access to the nugs.net app’s catalog of live sets (and studio albums) from artists such as Widespread Panic, Umphrey’s McGee, Pearl Jam, The Black Crowes, the Disco Biscuits, Gov’t Mule and moe.. Non-subscribers may access a rotating selection of “Featured Shows” & nugs.net radio completely Free. The app is available for both iOS and Android devices.

For the first edition, below are highlights from this year’s New Year’s Eve performances from the bands available for streaming.

Widespread PanicFox Theatre, Atlanta

In addition to bringing back The Megablaster horn section, WSP also debuted two Leonard Cohen covers in the first set, including “Hallelujah.” It might look like a typo that they played “Heroes” back to back, but one of those is an original and the other is a first-time-played David Bowie cover – debuted, as it would turn out, just days before the musician’s death.

Umphrey’s McGeeThe Fillmore Auditorium, Denver

Never ones to disappoint on NYE, Umphrey’s McGee debuted a new tune “Speak Up,” as well as debut covers of “Tempted” by Squeeze, “Ignition” by R. Kelly and “Christmas In Hollis” by Run-D.M.C.

Gov’t MuleBeacon Theatre, New York City

Gov’t Mule took the opportunity on New Year’s Eve to highlight the core members of the band and did not utilize any guests on the holiday for the first time in the band’s history. Just kidding, check out guest spots from Steve Kimock, Lincoln Schleifer, Machan Taylor, Elaine Caswell, Larry Campbell, Chuck Leavell, Jack Pearson, Paul Riddle and Shawn Pelton.

moe.Palace Theatre, Albany, New York

moe. fans will want to check out the four song second-set as the Pink Floyd covers preceding the New Year’s Eve countdown from this show. We’re also pretty sure this is the first “Auld Lang Syne” > “Jump Around” > “Auld Lang Syne” ever performed, but we can’t be totally sure – it’s possible House of Pain dropped one sometime in the 1990s.

LotusStage AE, Pittsburgh

Highlights from this show include a must-hear combination of “15 Step” by Radiohead and “16 Saltines” by Jack White as well as the always appropriate cover selection of U2’s “New Year’s Day” shortly after midnight.

The Disco BiscuitsPlayStation Theater, New York City

For the Disco Biscuits, it’s all about the midnight countdown on New Year’s Eve, and this year’s “Hot Air Balloon” selection delivered the goods. Throw in a live musical score to the movie Tron, and two Planet Anthem-era bust-outs last played in 2011 and you get a real winner.

Railroad EarthVic Theatre, Chicago

The New Jersey jamgrass act played two lengthy sets and a “Long Way To Go Home” encore at the cozy confines of Chicago’s Vic Theatre on New Year’s Eve. Fan-favorite “420” made just its 7th appearance to start a show which also featured standout versions of classics “Colorado,” “Railroad Earth” and “Elko.” Check out the second set for RRE’s countdown to 2016 as well as an impressive “Goat” > “Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites” > “Drag Him Down” sequence.

Yonder Mountain String BandBoulder Theater, Boulder, Colorado

Yonder went deep on New Year’s playing a slew of debut covers like “Dancing In The Moonlight” and “Life In The Fast Lane” and also brought back a cover of “Bertha” for the first time since 2008.

The nugs.net app features true gapless playback so there are no pauses between transitions and users are able to save shows to their device for offline playback so you can access your shows when you’re off grid. Other features include playlists, sharing functions and a 24×7 radio stream from the nugs.net archives. A seven-day trial is available for those who want to give the service a shot.
