Once again, the Nolafunk Series During Jazz Fest will present shows at various Crescent City venues while the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival takes place. Today, a number of new shows and special guests have been added to the series lineup.
Arizona jam quartet Spafford will play a pair of late nights at Republic NOLA on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5. In addition, The Purple Party, an all-star tribute to Prince featuring members of Prince’s band, Turkuaz, The Motet, Snarky Puppy and more will be held at Maison on Sunday, May 6.
A handful of special guest sit-ins have also been announced. Samantha Fish will sit-in with Anders Osborne at The Howlin’ Wolf on April 28, while 14-year-old guitarist Brandon “Taz” Niederauer will guest with Voodoo Dead on April 27 and Foundation Of Funk on April 29 at the Howlin’ Wolf. Foundation Of Funk will also be joined by The Bonerama Horns. Finally, Eric Johanson and Jeff McCarty, aka the Whiskey Bayou Records Revue, will be Tab Benoit’s guest on May 4 at Republic NOLA as part of the Delta Rhythm Revue, a show that also features Samantha Fish.
The action is currently set to start on April 27 with Voodoo Dead at Republic NOLA. Voodoo Dead returns on April 28, while Howlin’ Wolf will host Anders Osborne that night. As mentioned, Foundation Of Funk and their guests will play Howlin’ Wolf on April 29. Nolafunk will present Dead Feat at Republic NOLA on May 3 and the Delta Rhythm Revue on May 4. Other second weekend shows include the Spafford performances and Prince tribute mentioned above, an Anders Osborne & Friends show at Howlin’ Wolf and a Herbie Hancock tribute at The Maison.
