Galactic, Funky Meters & Bright Light Social Hour :: 2.17.17 :: Fonda Theatre :: West Hollywood, CA
Two legendary funk bands from New Orleans headlined the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood on Friday night, when the funky METERS and Galactic brought their current tour to the venue. Austin rockers Bright Light Social Hour kicked off the festivities ahead of a set from the Funky Meters. The quartet featuring original Meters members George Porter Jr. on bass and Art Neville on keys played a bevy of Meters classics including “Fire On The Bayou,” “Cissy Strut” and “Africa.
Galactic was led by vocalist Erica Falls for a bulk of their performance. Falls fronted Galactic on fan favorites including “Hey Na Na” and “Heart Of Steel” as well as covers of Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” and Ann Peebles’ “I Can’t Stand The Rain,” among other songs. The evening came to a close with Galactic and Erica Falls performing “Dolla Diva” off 2014’s Into The Deep. Check out a gallery of images from Friday captured by photographer Robert Chapman:
