One of the sets listed on the initial Wanee Festival lineup that has us most excited is Home At Last -The Nth Power Perform Steely Dan. We can’t wait to hear what The Nth Power has in store for Wanee, which takes place April 16 -18 at The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida.

The Nth Power returns to the road later this month for a 10-date Mid-Winter Tour that includes stops in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, Waynesboro, Ithaca, Burlington, Worcester, Saratoga Springs, Buffalo and Toronto. Ahead of the tour’s launch, we spoke with The Nth Power keyboardist/vocalist Nigel Hall about the Steely Dan tribute set at Wanee. (ICYMI: Steely Dan announced a Summer Tour this morning)

JamBase: How did the idea for a Steely Dan tribute set at Wanee come together?

Nigel Hall: The festival asked us to do a cover set, and as a band we all kind of landed on Steely Dan. Originally we had the idea to do a whole record of Steely Dan, but that kinda got leaked so we decided to do a full tribute of our favorite songs.

JamBase: Will the set focus on Steely Dan’s best-known material or can we expect any deep cuts?

Nigel Hall: All of their songs are the best, even the deep cuts. We’re definitely going to go deep, that’s the stuff right there.

JamBase: What one song are you most excited to play during the Steely Dan set?

Nigel Hall: I don’t know if I want to say because I would give away the element of surprise. But there’s one song in particular that has lyrics that are very weird and creepy, and I can’t wait to play it.

JamBase: Why do you love Steely Dan so damn much?

Nigel Hall: Because they’re the best band ever. Steely Dan was one of the first progressive rock bands that I ever heard on black radio as a kid, and I thought their sound was super interesting.
