Neil Young Debuts Buffalo Springfield-Era Song In Chicago & Announces Detroit Webcast

The Auditorium Theatre in Chicago hosted a pair of Neil Young solo shows over the weekend. While the setlists for the Chicago concerts were similar to opening night in St. Louis, there were a few surprises thrown in. Young also revealed his Archives website will host a free webcast of Tuesday night’s performance live from Detroit.

Saturday’s Neil Young solo show at the Auditorium Theatre featured five songs he didn’t play on Thursday night in St. Louis. While a run of “On The Way Home,” “Homefires,” “Love Is A Rose” and “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” opened both concerts, Young followed with “Cowgirl In The Sand” on Saturday. A few songs later he trotted out the original arrangement of “Birds” from his Buffalo Springfield days. The first of two concerts in Chicago also included the tour debuts of “After The Gold Rush,” “One Of These Days” and “Man Of War.” Both “One Of These Days” and “Man Of War” date back to Young’s 1992 album Harvest Moon.

Yet the biggest surprise of the solo run thus far came towards the middle of Sunday’s show in Chicago, as Neil Young performed “One More Sign” live for the first time nine songs into the evening. A demo of “One More Sign” was included in a Buffalo Springfield box set in 2001 and later appeared in 2009’s Neil Young Archives Vol. 1 1963 – 1972. Young played “One More Sign” on piano in Chicago and was the only tour debut of the night.

In other Neil Young news, a live webcast of the legendary performer’s Tuesday night solo show will be available. NeilYoungArchives.com will host the stream of the sold-out concert.
