Hear Neil Young & Crazy Horse Preview Live Album With Potent ‘Cinnamon Girl’

Neil Young & Crazy Horse last took the stage on November 4, 2023 for a private birthday party held at the intimate The Rivoli bar, restaurant and performance space in Toronto. Young recently confirmed a live album documenting the show will be released and unveiled the Horse’s performance of “Cinnamon Girl” from the set.

The legendary musician discussed the memorable Crazy Horse concert and a health issue he’s been dealing with in a note posted on his Neil Young Archives website this past Tuesday (January 23). “The last time we played live was so amazing! I had a great time,” Young wrote. “I had been playing with arthritis in my hand for years and years and finally discovered a way around the pain with no drugs that let me play as I felt.”

Neil Young was joined for 2023 Crazy Horse shows by multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren, drummer Ralph Molina, bassist Billy Talbot and guitarist Micah Nelson. “The last show was a lifetime experience,” Young added in regards to the Toronto concert. “The guys all said as we left the stage. ‘That was a really good one!’ All the guys, even Ralph!!! It was a special night!”

The quintet’s performance at The Rivoli was a birthday party for Dani Reiss, the CEO of Canadian clothing company Canada Goose. The setlist consisted of 11 classics. Young’s note went on to mention the Toronto show was captured with hopes to put it out in April, when the band will embark on a tour. “Of course, we will share it with you,” Neil wrote. “It should come out about when we hit the road again — April.” He added “it’s double vinyl” and “I love the sound in all its Ragged Glory!”

While a title for the live album has yet to be confirmed, the “Cinnamon Girl” audio from Toronto was shared on Neil Young Archives under the heading “FU##in’ UP is Coming!” Originally released by Neil Young & Crazy Horse on the 1969 studio album Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, “Cinnamon Girl” was played to start the encore in Toronto that also included “Rockin’ In The Free World.”

Currently, Neil Young & Crazy Horse has one upcoming appearance on the books. The iconic rock band will play New Orleans Jazz Fest on May 4. More tour dates are expected to be announced soon.
