Watch Neil Young Go Solo Acoustic For Favorites At Farm Aid 2023

Farm Aid shared video of Neil Young’s set at the 2023 benefit concert, which took place at the Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana on September 23. The Farm Aid co-founder and board member offered classics “Heart Of Gold,” “Comes A Time” and more in a solo acoustic format.

“Right now we’re gonna bring out one of the best songwriters of our generation,” Young’s fellow Farm Aid co-founder and board member John Mellencamp said in his introduction. “One of the founding members of Farm Aid and a pretty funny guy when you get to know him. Ladies and gentleman, Neil Young.”

Wearing his well-worn “Earth” shirt, Neil said, “Kind of like Farm Aid is morphing into Earth Aid. You people are all here and it’s great that you are. We really appreciate it and we appreciate the support you’re giving the family farmers and the farmers around the country. And we know that you can do even more and I’m gonna talk to you about some of that because it’s good stuff.” Young continued to talk about the important work that family farmers do for the people and the planet throughout his set.

Young launched the four-song segment with the beloved “Comes A Time,” from his 1978 album of the same name. The version of the tune is also set to appear on Young’s upcoming solo acoustic album, Before And After. Watch Neil Young perform “Comes A Time” at Farm Aid 2023 below:

Neil then offered a fitting, “Are There Any More Real Cowboys?,” at the benefit that also supports family ranchers. Another appropriate tune, “Love Earth” — off Young’s 2022 album with Crazy Horse, World Record — followed. “Farm Aid is Earth Aid,” Young said before wrapping his set with the classic “Heart Of Gold,” off his landmark 1972 album, Harvest.
