Neal Francis conducted a tour of his keyboard rig with JamBase contributor Ryan Storm. The pair captured the video ahead of the Chicago-based musician’s January 28 show at The Velvet Underground in Toronto.
Francis began with his Hohner Clavinet D-6, which he had fitted with a whammy bar. Francis also explored his 1963 Hammond A 100 organ along with its Leslie speaker. Francis then ran through his pedal configuration for the clav, including a Cry Baby wah and Orange phaser.
Francis further covered his main instrument, the Yamaha CP-70, which is an actual piano with strings but with pickups instead of a soundboard, the latter being what acoustic pianos contain. Finally, Francis pointed out his Korg MS-20 synthesizer, noting that he usually tours with the full-size model but was using the mini as his full-size received repairs.
