Neal Francis Shares New Single ‘How Have I Lived (Reprise)’: Exclusive Premiere
Neal Francis shared a new song, “How Have I Lived (Reprise),” via Karma Chief Records. The new track, which officially comes out digitally tomorrow (Friday, April 3), is available to stream now exclusively via JamBase.
The Chicago-based Francis recorded “How Have I Lived (Reprise)” during the sessions that produced his 2019 debut album, Changes, which included the track “How Have I Lived.” The singer-songwriter followed up with the single “Don’t Call Me No More” in January.
Francis spoke to JamBase about “How Have I Lived (Reprise).” Here’s what he said about the new track:
This song was born from a false start that was recorded while we were tracking “How Have I Lived,” a song from my debut LP Changes. We arrived in the studio the next morning to find that Sergio had been up all night crafting a whole song from that 15 second mistake. I wrote lyrics and added vocals and harpsichord with Mike Novak at Chicago Electric Piano Company back in Chicago.
Lyrically the song is a reference to a relationship I was carrying on that took on addictive qualities, became compulsive, and hurt people I loved. Any addiction is a love affair, whether it’s food, drugs, alcohol, or, in this case, sex. Even when I know it can’t continue I still cling to the things that excited me in the first place. This song is about the difficulties of letting go and the temptations that exist afterwards.
