My Morning Jacket Aiming For Fall Release Of New Album

Besides last month’s One Big Holiday destination event, all has been quiet on the My Morning Jacket front in 2014 thus far. According to a new interview with Jim James it won’t stay that way for long as the band is currently working on a new studio album.

When asked about the status of the new album, which the band is currently recording, James tells The Kentucky Project, “It’s going great. We are going to some cool new places and just enjoying playing music together as a band. We hope maybe it will come out in the fall.” We were hoping MMJ would preview songs from the album at One Big Holiday, but instead the band chose to dust off old originals and covers. James had a great time down in Mexico, “It was a lot of fun! I think more fun than anyone expected. The place was so beautiful. It was just a chance to relax and have fun. Even though we worked our asses off re-learning songs for it! We were so excited that so many people wanted to come share in the event [‘s] magic with us!”

Jim James discusses much more in the new interview including MMJ’s participation in tribute albums and environmental issues.
