Mumford & Sons played the title track to their forthcoming album, Rushmere, on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Frontman Marcus Mumford spoke about the record coming out on Friday and during an interview with host Jimmy Fallon.

Rushmere is the first Mumford & Sons studio album since 2018’s Delta. The Dave Cobb-produced album is the first recorded by the core trio of Mumford, bassist Ted Dwane and keyboardist Ben Lovett, following the departure of Winston Marshall in 2021.

Marcus Mumford lobed a complaint with Fallon during his panel segment on the late-night talk show. Mumford explained his disappointment with the straightforward introduction Fallon provided for Mumford & Sons before the band’s performance at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary party. The clip of Fallon saying only, “ladies and gentlemen, Mumford & Sons,” was shown as evidence of the plainly worded intro.

When it came time for Fallon to introduce Mumford & Sons’ Tonight Show performance, the host made up for the meger SNL 50 intro by delivering an overly expository introduction prior to their performance of “Rushmere.”

Mumford & Sons are in New York City ahead of a performance tonight at Brooklyn Paramount. Mumford, Dwane and Lovett are backed by The Barr Brothers/The Slip drummer Andrew Barr, along with Matt Menefee (banjo, electric & resonator guitar), Laura Bibbs (trumpet), Darius Christian (trombone) and Kyle Resnick (trumpet).
