One of the emotional high points of this past Saturday’s Concert For Island Relief at Radio City Music Hall in New York City came when Dave Matthews brought out his old friend Trey Anastasio for a gorgeous rendition of “Waste.” The two musical collaborators, who hadn’t shared a stage since 2007, played a song Matthews noted was his favorite. Videographer ChesterCopperpot5 has taken nine different pieces of footage filmed by fans at Radio City and combined them into the best clip of “Waste” yet.

Trey Anastasio wrote “Waste” with Tom Marshall for inclusion on 1996’s Billy Breathes. Dave picked the song as his contribution to a Phish tribute compilation put together in 2000 to raise funds for The Mockingbird Foundation, Sharin’ In The Groove. Matthews went on to perform the song solo during DMB concerts. Then, in 2003 and 2004, Anastasio toured as part of Dave & Friends and the two played “Waste” a handful of times. Saturday’s performance of the tune was the first featuring Matthews since 2006.
