More Guests And Debuts For My Morning Jacket In Mexico
By Scott Bernstein Feb 2, 2015 • 6:30 am PST

Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes came out at the start of the set to help with the MMJ debut of “Down to the Bottom,” a song Goldsmith and Jim James recorded for their New Basement Tapes project featuring lyrics from Bob Dylan. A run of classic originals led into the debut of a new song known for now as “Compound.” The Tennessee Fire rarity “I Think I’m Going To Hell” came next and was followed by Conor Oberst guesting on “Smokin’ From Shootin'” before the main set concluded with “Dondante.”
An extra-large encore began with “Honest Man” and led into a series of covers. Willie Nelson’s “Luckenbach, Texas” featured special guest Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, who also stuck around for a cover of “Mama Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.” Oberst and Goldsmith also lent a hand on the Waylon Jennings cover. Next up was a take on Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets” and a pair of Bob Marley covers -“Stir It Up” and “Could You Be Loved” -split by sections of “Phone Went West.” Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso sat in on the Marley tunes. My Morning Jacket brought the evening to a close with “Touch Me Pt.2” and “Gideon.”
