Coming into his latest tour Mike Gordon had a huge repertoire to draw from for his five-piece to play. That hasn’t stopped the bassist from rolling out a slew of material that goes beyond the songs found on his latest album, Overstep. Gordon and his band have debuted a whopping 25 tunes so far during the four-show-old tour including four at last night’s show in Washington, DC.

Mike, guitarist Scott Murawski, drummer Todd Isler, percussionist Craig Myers and keyboardist Tom Cleary brought the tour to the 9:30 Club on Tuesday night, where they mixed songs from throughout Gordon’s solo career with a batch of fun covers and a Phish obscurity. “Spock’s Brain” made its second appearance in three shows during a first set that also included takes on “Jones” by Max Creek, a handful of Overstep songs and “Dig Further Down” and “Traveled Too Far” off 2008’s The Green Sparrow. The second set started with Overstep’s “Ether” and continued with the debut of original “Either” and “Puddle” from Isler’s International Orange project. Mike and the guys then offered their first-ever takes on Bonnie Raitt’s “Love On One Condition” and Cleary’s “Twists And Bends.” A foursome of Overstep tunes led into an “Only A Dream” set closer. The band returned for an encore of “Loon” and “Cities” (Talking Heads).

In other Mike Gordon news, the bassist and a few of his bandmates are expected to appear on CBS This Morning: Saturday as part of the “Saturday Sessions” series this Saturday, March 8 at some point between 7-9 a.m.(ET) to perform “Long Black Line” and “Tiny Little World” off Overstep.
