Molly Tuttle turned Dolly Parton’s “9 To 5” into a showcase for her band’s bluegrass picking during a September 25 concert at The Amp Ballantyne in Charlotte, North Carolina. Tuttle released the live recording today, following her appearance on last night’s televised CMA tribute to Parton.
Recorded on “Dolly Day,” a nod to the date’s numerical connection to the song, the performance recasts “9 To 5” around acoustic guitar, banjo and fiddle. Tuttle, banjo player Ellen Angelico and fiddler Mary “Mair” Meyer each take solos. Drummer Megan Jane and bassist Vanessa McGowan round out the band.
Tuttle shared the following tribute to Parton in a statement accompanying the release:
Dolly is such a huge inspiration to me, not only as one of the greatest singers, songwriters, and artists to ever live, but also as someone who always led the way with kindness and stayed true to who she was and where she came from. Dolly was someone who could bring us all together and I know that her songs, spirit and stories will live on forever. She was someone who made the world a better place.
On Wednesday, Tuttle helped open CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration Of Dolly Parton with “A Few Old Memories” alongside Vince Gill, Béla Fleck and Ricky Skaggs. Lainey Wilson then joined the musicians for “Train, Train.” The two-hour tribute aired live from Nashville’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Belmont University and is now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
The new single follows Tuttle’s So Long Little Miss Sunshine (Acoustic EP), released in September. The five-track collection revisits songs from her 2025 solo album So Long Little Miss Sunshine. Tuttle has additional tour dates scheduled through the end of the year.
