moe. continued Winter Tour last night at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. The band delivered a pair of career-spanning sets and dusted off a Tori Amos cover for the first time in nearly five years.
Thursday’s show began with the old school pairing of “Spine Of A Dog” > “Spaz Medicine” and then dropped into Tori Amos’s “Cornflake Girl.” moe. first covered Tori’s song back in 2002 and it remained in rotation through 2005. The band played the Rob Derhak-sung cover once in 2006 and once in 2007 before shelving it until 2010. “Cornflake Girl” had been performed by moe. just five times between 2010 and 2012 with the last cover before Thursday occurring on February 12, 2012. Heavy-hitter “Timmy Tucker” followed the bust out and led into a set-closing sequence of “Hector’s Pillow” > “Montego” > “Mar-DeMa” > “Okayalright.”
moe. kicked off the second set with “Do Or Die” and then worked “Zed Naught Z” into “Moth.” After a standalone “Stranger Than Fiction,” the band lit into an outrageous pairing of “Rebubula” > “Jazz Wank” > “Buster” > “Rebubula” to form the meat of the closing stanza. After starting the encore with “Downward Facing Dog,” moe. proceeded to cover “Fame” by David Bowie for the first time this year. Tonight, moe.’s Winter Tour continues at Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vermont.
